Abstract

"The Talk of Mars Hill" piece on how Evergreen Wind Power's proposal to build Maine's first wind-power project on Mars Hill Mountain has been endorsed by the Natural Resources Council of Maine (NRCM) and opposed by Maine Audubon, which is concerned over possible bird and bat fatalities. Modern turbines have towers that offer no perching possibilities for birds, have blades that spin more slowly than older models, and have had negligible impact on bird populations, according to Pete Didisheim of the NRCM.
