Abstract

"The Talk of Maine" piece on Canton, which has decided to move 15 percent of its housing stock as well as municipal offices and businesses to higher ground after repeated ice-out floodings of Whitney Brook, which runs through town and connects to the Androscoggin River. In the last 15 years, the towns of Allagash and Fort Fairfield have moved residents out of flood plains. With details on the plan, its funding, and the impact of the relocation project.
