Abstract

"North by East" piece on the redesign of license plates for legislators, which aroused intense opposition and came to be known as "Plategate." Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap said he was retiring the plates by March 15, and that lawmakers could have new plates made in the old style for a $2 fee.
