Abstract

Four top art curators were asked to select an underexposed Maine photographer. Susan Danly of the Portland Museum of Art chose Denise Froehlich of Kennebunkport for her poetic feel for rural Maine life. Wally Mason of the Maine Museum of Art in Bangor nominated Michael Alpert for his commitment to recording "unvarnished Maine." Stephen Halpert of the Westbrook College Campus Gallery at the University of New England chose Dirk McConnell for the strong play of opposing forces in his work. Bruce Brown of the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockland selected Thomas Birtwistle of Harmony, who gives us a new and nuanced take on the ordinary.
