Abstract

"What's in a Picture?" piece on the Broiler Festival, which was first held in 1948 in Belfast and featured a Broiler Queen. The photograph is of Miss Betty Perry, who won the distinction in 1949. In 1972, 17,000 people attended the event. By the 1980s, Maine's broiler industry, in which Belfast played a significant part, had all but collapsed, and the festival was renamed the Bay Festival.
