Abstract

"What's in a Picture?" piece on the steamship "Katahdin," pride of the Bangor-to-Boston run, captained by William Roix. When the ship ran low of fuel in a winter gale in 1886, the crew used cargo, furniture, and bits of the ship itself during a 10-hour ordeal that ended safely in Portsmouth Harbor.
