Abstract

Francis Fortier, founder of the Bar Harbor Music Festival, first brought musicians to town in 1964. When a generous donor backed the sixth season, the festival became a legitimate annual event. The festival now offers 14 concerts a season, and Fortier sometimes performs on his 300-year-old Stradivarius violin.
