Abstract

Dot Gonyea, who belongs to the True Fans for Elvis club, has a ticket to the Portland concert Elvis Presley never gave because he died hours earlier, 30 years ago this month. The fan club has donated $75,000 to Casco's Camp Sunshine, for children with life-threatening illnesses. Elvis made only one appearance in Maine, at the Augusta Civic Center, on May 24, 1977--the date the fan club has its annual retreat ("The Sun Sessions") and raises most of its money. The enthusiasm of Maine fans prompted his handlers to schedule two more concerts just three months later. With details on the value of tickets for Elvis' Maine concerts and a note that the Cumberland County Civic Center has records of every event but one since it opened on March 3, 1977.
