Abstract

Jack Pelletier of Gorham, "the dean of Maine bottle collectors;" Portland artist Laura Fuller who creates works of art from glass bottles; and artist, interior decorator, and bottle collector Carol Bass of Yarmouth all take joy in the beauty of old glass. Maine dumps yield some of the oldest bottles to be found in the country, but many have broken in freezing weather. When Laura Fuller placed her gallery in an old Munjoy Hill pharmacy, she discovered shelves with medicine bottles behind the wallboard. Richard Carney of Brunswick dives for bottles in Maine and collects over 2,000 a year. He sells the rarest and fashions others into crafts.
