Abstract

"The Talk of Maine" piece on how native fish populations are being depleted in Maine lakes by ice fishermen, the primary live baitfish users in Maine. Maine bans live baitfish in much of its remote trout water, but brook trout strongholds, including the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, are still open. Maine's management policies often don't get implemented because of political heat from special interest groups like bait dealers.
