Photographer David McLain was on assignment for National Geographic in Greenland when he realized that kayaking was meant to be a winter sport. Upon returning, he gathered other registered Maine sea kayak guides and went on a three-day trip Down East. With a description of the beauties of winter kayaking and the necessary precautions to take.
