Abstract

"The Talk of Maine" piece on the challenges faced by new leadership at the Maine Turnpike Authority after a state investigation led to the previous executive director's resignation in March 2011. Gov. Paul LePage has named Peter Mills, a former state senator, as interim director of MTA and has stated that the agency might be forced to merge with the Department of Transportation if reforms do not occur. With details about MTA's history, misuse of surplus funds, the MTA board's acquiescent governance, and the investigation of the MTA initiated by Senator Dawn Hill of York.
