Abstract
Although laws prohibiting home beer brewing and wine making were abolished quite awhile ago, federal and state laws prohibiting home distilling of alcohol are still in place. Despite the risk, some Mainers are operating home distilleries. The author describes the distilling process and his discussions with Mainers who make alcohol at home, legal distillers, and home brew suppliers. With sidebar on legal distilleries in Maine.
