Abstract

"The Talk of Maine" piece about Maine's response to President Obama's proposal to reduce funding for the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program from $4.7 billion in 2011 to $2.57 million in 2012. Senator Snowe and Representatives Pingree and Michaud supported bills to restore funding to the 2011 level of $4.7 million. Includes details about community efforts in Maine to raise funds for fuel assistance and a note stating that a bill passed by Congress in December 2011 includes $3.5 billion in funding for LIHEAP.
