Abstract

Piece that chronicles the transformation of the coastal city of Belfast from the 1980s, when it was one of the most depressed cities in the country to the summer of 2011, when twenty-eight new businesses opened in the revitalized downtown. Art galleries, restaurants, a new shipyard, and a wooden sailboat manufacturing company now occupy the real estate left vacant after the closing of the poultry processing plants. The city's diverse residents revel in the fact that their community is not like any other.
