Abstract

“Making it in Maine” piece about identical twins Mike and Geoff Howe who create experimental vehicles. The brothers’ extreme vehicles and experiments with robotics have attracted the attention of various government agencies, and they landed a contract with the Department of Defense in 2006 for their Ripsaw prototype. They also caught the attention of Hollywood, designing a tank for use in a movie. Their R&D company, Howe and Howe Technologies in Waterboro, suffered from federal budget cuts, but the Howes continue to develop projects in the private sector.
