Abstract

“Talk of Maine” piece looks at what has happened in the wake of Plum Creek Timber Company’s 2005 proposal to develop 975 building lots on Moosehead Lake and surrounding area, along with two resorts, an industrial park, three RV parks, a golf course, and a marina. The Natural Resources Council of Maine opposed the proposal, setting off the most divisive environmental fight in the state’s history. Various people who were involved in the battle speak about what they learned from it and discuss the implications of the process.
