Abstract

Brief profile of the painter Jon Imber, a longtime summer resident of Maine, who chose to battle his illness (he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS) by continuing to paint, even when he could no longer stand or hold a brush unaided. A recent film titled “Jon Imber’s Left Hand” depicts his struggle as well as the triumph of his last paintings.
