Abstract

“Talk of Maine” piece is a survey of Maine’s changing grocery landscape. Consumers have a great range of options now, from member-owned food co-ops across the state to chain specialty grocers like Trader Joe’s. David Livingston, a Wisconsin-based grocery analyst, says the situation in Maine is not unsurprising and reflects a trend in the grocery business away from middle-of-the-road grocery stores, with consumers shopping either for price or for quality and experience.
