Abstract

After considering all of Maine’s 494 cities, towns, and plantations, asking readers and Down East editors which of these was an ideal hometown, then comparing census and state planning data, taking scouting trips, and talking to residents; the following places took the top four choices of best places to live in Maine. Readers’ choices: Camden, Hallowell, The Kennebunks, and Norway. The Editors’ choices: South Bristol, Portland, Yarmouth, and Bangor.
