Abstract

Maine’s fifth season, mud season, which runs from late March to early May, is largely due to the marine soils found here. Marine soils are composed of heavy clay and silt, which are prone to holding water. Four mud-related challenge competitions are listed as well as “soilient” facts about Maine soils.
