Abstract

Isleboro’s “Second Baptist Sewing Society” has been meeting just about every Tuesday since 1858 when it was founded by the wife of the Island’s Second Baptist Church’s pastor. Known less formally as “Circle,” this secular 40-member group gets together to sew, knit, embroider, needlepoint, crochet, and weave countless items and pieces of clothing for themselves, others, and to sell at the annual fair. It has helped forge a strong bond in the community. [images]
