Abstract

On August 6, 1893, the stone facing inside the Portland Water Company's Munjoy Reservoir collapsed, releasing 20 million gallons of water. The flood of water washed away several houses and killed four people, and a crowd of some 25,000 spectators gathered on Munjoy Hill that day to assess the damage. Details.
