Abstract

Satellite imaging, the most advanced remote sensing technology now available, is allowing ecologists to base their decisions on more information than ever before available. With a grant from Apple Computer, the Island Institute's Geographic Access Information and Analysis is gathering data to see if Maine's islands can be models for an "island earth," as the so-called Gaia Hypothesis posits. Includes satellite images of North Haven, Vinalhaven, and Pleasant Bay. Details.
