Abstract

The Maine Island Trail, proposed conceptually in 1987, became reality in 1988. Despite island owners' fears of overuse, the organization grew to 500 members and published an 80-page guidebook on low-impact camping and how to find state and private islands in the trail system. Includes fifteen letters written by trail users.
