Abstract

Interview with Joe Johansen, one of the few Coast Guard lighthouse keepers whose career dates back to the days of incadenscent vapor lights. He started as an assistant lighthouse keeper on Ram Island in 1949 and has since worked on all the light stations along the coast. He explains the technology of the stations and repair boats, as well as the transition to automated lighthouses. Related article publishes the memoirs of Myron Corbett, naturalist and lighthouse keeper on Little River and Manana. Box lists the licensees of Maine's 23 island and coastal lighthouses. Details.
