Abstract

Using a Seahaven donated by Seaway Boats of Winthrop, the Island Institute last year conducted a Bureau of Public Lands recreation survey of 125 state-owned islands between Cape Elizabeth and Schoodic Point. About 80 to 90 have recreation potential. Although the sale of state-owned islands to private interests became illegal in 1913, the state owns less than 1.5 percent of Maine's island acreage.
