Abstract

Profile of painter Connie Hayes of Rockland, who has been called "a colorist on a grand scale," and who finds much of her favorite subject matter on Maine islands. She speaks of her fondness for Vinalhaven, Isleboro, and Monhegan; writes about how she packs to visit an island and of life on an island; talks about galleries and the market for art; and discusses her "Borrowed Views" project of borrowing houses on Maine islands for a weekend or week in order to paint there.
