Abstract

In addition to providing valuable data about the Gulf of Maine's response to global warming, the historical knowledge of fishermen holds lessons for the rest of society regarding how best to prepare for the effects of climate change. Staff at the Island Institute have employed a variety of methods to capture the observations of fishermen, including convening roundtable discussions in 2007 and 2008. With a timeline of significant events in the lobster fishery from 1900-2002.
