Abstract

Gerber discusses her experience as an Island Institute AmeriCorps Fellow on Chebeague. Her responsibilities included organizing and leading activities off-island for Chebeague's teens, as well as staffing the Teen Center. Island teenagers have great physical freedom and a sense of safety, but also sometimes feel that "there's nothing to do" on the island and have to adjust to big mainland schools after fifth grade.
