Abstract

Several islands in Maine celebrated the recent births of new babies in their communities. Islands populated with children, allow schools to stay open, which in turn entices younger families to move in. Many islanders choose to have their babies at home on the island rather than mainland hospitals. There are no hospitals on Maine islands. [images]
