Abstract

Blueberry farmer Arthur Harvey wrote his own lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). He charges its guidelines for labeling foods "organic" have so many loopholes as to be virtually meaningless. The new National Organics Standard requires that independent organic farming associations, like Maine Organic Farmers and Gardiners Association, not set more stringent standards than those of the USDA. Charts show organic acreage by crop and state. Details.
