The Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) announced its intent to sue the Freeport Sewer Council and New Jersey-based Engelhard Corporation, which operates a fish scale processing plant in Eastport, for repeated violations of clean water standards. CLF specifically targeted its latest report and lawsuits to make an impact in Augusta. The state Department of Environmental Protection is reviewing the cases and will improve its enforcement if needed.
