Abstract

"Business Maine" piece on University of Southern Maine engineering students, Joshua Heckman, 25, of Gorham, and Jonathan Wappel, who have invented a digital surface mapping technology, called Perfect Ice System, which can detect bumps in an ice surface and variations in its depth. They started a company, Delta Surface Technologies, which will first target ice arenas. Wappel's family is from New Jersey and owns ice rinks. The two recently won the third annual USM Student Business Plan Competition, taking home $10,000 and $15,000 worth of professional services.
