Abstract

"Focus on the Midcoast" piece on Wiscasset's efforts to redevelop Mason Station, an old electricity plant, and 441 acres on the site of the former Maine Yankee nuclear plant. During the readjustment following the 1997 closure of Maine Yankee, which had paid 80 percent of the town's taxes, town government was reorganized, residents squabbled, and taxes rose. National RE/sources, a firm specializing in the reuse of industrial properties, under president Joseph Cotter who summers in Wiscasset, has taken on the task of redeveloping both plant sites, with enthusiastic town support. With details on those plans and a profile of new town manager Andrew Gilmore.
