Abstract

John Kendall, the owner of EmbedTech of Raymond, believes that his company will make a billion dollars in 2009 through the manufacture of RFIDs (radio-frequency identification tags) that can be use to track the movement of goods, and he believes that other Maine companies can share in the opportunity, if the state takes advantage of the opportunity. RFID technology has been around for more than 50 years and is now being positioned to take the place of bar codes. Demand for RFIDs is expected to explode because of a recent mandate by Wal-Mart that its top suppliers be RFID compliant by 2005. Details.
