Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece voicing the concerns of Jim Clair, vice president for financial affairs of Augusta-based Community Pharmacies, about a recent proposal of the Baldacci administration to reduce the amount pharmacies are rimbursed for prescriptions they fill for MaineCare patients in order to help balance the state budget. Clair says that this is the eighth burden placed on Maine pharmacies over the past 18 months, and the impact of this reduction could be crushing. He muses whether his company, which just opened its fifteenth pharmacy in East Corinth, would have done so if it had anticipated the proposed reimbursement reduction.
