Abstract

"Focus on northern Maine." Great Northern Paper's layoffs and bankruptcy affected the Millinocket region greatly; the January unemployment rate was 17.1 percent, more than double last year's. Katahdin Entrepreneurship Education Programs should assist many of the former employees (like cabinetmaker Mike Brown and Paul Gagnon of West Branch Traders), but director Michael Ballasteros says that without the mills there is nothing to do in the region.
