Abstract

"Focus on the Augusta-Waterville Region" piece on the hot real estate market in the Belgrade Lakes region, driven by a rise in second-home markets around the country. For the last three years, lakefront property has sold within days. The Belgrade Lakes Golf Club, which opened in 1998, was dubbed the fifth-best new course in America by Golf Digest. The area is near I-95, 90 minutes from Portland and three hours from Boston. Towns in the area include Rome, Oakland, Belgrade, and Sidney. Locals say the area is becoming more crowded, but waterfront real estate values are key to the area's fiscal health.
