Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece on John Witherspoon, 47, former president and CEO of Bangor-based UnitedKingfield Bank. Barely a month after taking on his new role as CEO of the Finance Authority of Maine (FAME), Witherspoon worked on one of the largest deals FAME has encountered, a $5.5 million loan guarantee needed to close First Paper Holding LLC's $23 million purchase of bankrupt Eastern Pulp and Paper Co. Witherspoon says his goal now is to identify FAME's future capital needs and boost its $25 million capital reserves.
