Abstract

"Business Maine" piece on Edward Mattar III, 63, former owner of the Nasson College property in Springvale. He has been arrested in Colorado in connection with fraudulent practices that led to the failure of BestBank of Boulder, of which he was CEO. He promised to revive Nasson College, but instead failed to pay taxes and defaulted on $563,000 in loans. He later bought the mortgages to three Nasson buildings from the Department of Education and sold them to the city for almost twice what he had paid for them.
