Abstract

"Focus on Health Care" piece about Dr. Burgess Record and his wife, Sandra Record, who co-founded the Healthy Community Coalition, a program run by Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, that has a dramatic effect on the health of local residents. The Records are now heading the launch of an innovative software company, Franklin Scorekeeper, which offers health management software, developed over the years by the Healthy Community Coalition to record the screenings that determine an individual's risk for chronic diseases and to chart a course of action for the patient to become healthier. Scorekeeper software is already being used by Hannaford Bros., the University of Maine, and the State of Vermont as a key element in their employee-based heath initiative, and is being used in a number of Maine hospitals in the community health initiatives. Scorekeeper primarily targets factors related to cardio vascular disease, cancer, diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, maladies that account for more than 70 percent of deaths in Maine. Price estimates for Scorekeeper range somewhere between $30,000 and $50,000.
