Abstract

"Focus on the Bangor Region" piece discussing the growing interest in developing Bangor's waterfront, while questioning whether the city can attrack enough visitors to support the proposed amenities. Guided by a new master development plan, the city has given an intitial go-ahead for a waterfront condominium proposal, and for a food court/residential complex along the river. A Texas developer is exploring the viability of a 200-room riverfront Marriott hotel and conference center. In addition, designs are for an outdoor amphitheater are being expanded, and the city has secured funding to shore up the river bank and add a heavy docking facility to provide a suitable birth the 165-foot American Eagle, cruise ship, owne3d by American Cruise Lines, which began using Bangor as its home port this year.
