Abstract

"Focus on the Environment" piece on Rooks Communications in Cumberland, with an interview with President John Rooks, 34. After working at the Portsmouth, N.H.-based advertising agency Yellow Steel, Rooks and two partners started a marketing and public relations firm this year that specializes in environmental communications. He speaks of the company's policies, clients, and marketing strategies; how being labeled "green" can sometimes be a marketing obstacle; and how preserving Maine's environment aids the "environmental branding" that Maine companies like L.L. Bean depend upon.
