Abstract

"Focus on Banking and Finance" piece on results through the first nine months of the year for Maine's publicly traded banks. Some banks, such as Banknorth and First National Lincoln Corp., showed particularly balanced growth across all business segments and good control over expenses. Most banks credited new loan and refinancing activity, driven by low interest rates, with helping to boost income. A chart shows net income, assets and loans growing across the board.
