Abstract

"Building & real estate" piece on Pineland, the former mental hospital in New Gloucester that was redeveloped by the Libra Foundation with attractive amenities that compensate businesses for the out-of-the-way location. Portland-based Libra and Vermont-based Pizzagalli Construction removed hazardous waste, razed some buildings, and rebuilt the rest after gutting them. The grounds were landscaped, equestrian and dairy operations started, new barns and fencing added, and trails built. A total of $50 million was spent on renovations, including a commons and lavishly appointed conference center. With a list of the tenants who have leased space at Pineland.
