Abstract

"Capitol Letter" piece on how Maine's "tri-party governance," under Gov. Angus King--with an Independent governor, Republican Senate, and Democratic House--has become a "uni-party governance," under Democratic governor John Baldacci. Maine has more unaffiliated voters than voters registered to any one party, and Republicans can take solace in the fact that cooperation based on party affiliation is a goal, not always a reality.
