Abstract

Brief article on the lawsuit filed by Bob Kaufman of Connecticut, owner of Bob's Discount Furniture Inc., seeking a judgement against Bob Dinan of Maine, owner of Lewiston-based Bob's Discount Off-Price Superstores Inc., over the use of the "Bob's Discount" phrasing. The trouble began when Kaufman, who has stores through New England, opened a store in South Portland in May. Gene Carter, U.S. District Court judge, has ordered Dinan to stop using the words "Bob's Discount Furniture" in any advertising, while the lawsuit moves through federal court. Carter noted that Kaufman has trademarked the words "Bob's Discount." The trial is expected to begin in March.
