Abstract

Article on Accessories Unlimited (AU), a 36-year-old Cornish handbag company founded by Chris Birchfield. In August, John Milburn bought AU from Birchfield, keeping her on as the company's designer. Milburn's plan for growth focuses on lining up new sales representatives in key markets and embarking on a new marketing and branding campaign to make the company better known to consumers. Milburn's goal is to double the size of the company in five years. Birchfield meanwhile plans to focus on designing new products that fit within what she sees as AU's niche: high-quality, high-end bags backed by a 100 percent repair or replacement guarantee.
