Abstract

Pemberton's Gourmet Foods, a Gray-based specialty foods manufacturer, has been growing steadily since its inception in 2002. Owners Jeff and Sarah Johnson were planning for expansion when Sarah was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in April. The Johnsons' focus shifted to her treatment, and despite a 10 percent decrease in revenues this year, the couple is optimistic about the future of the business. Sarah's final chemotherapy treatment is scheduled for this month. Meredith Burgess, president of Burgess Advertising & Associates in Portland, credits her staff of 18 with keeping the Johnson's company prosperous during Sarah's 18 months of treatment for breast cancer.
